I was looking for a generator for emergencies and for camping. The DuroMax by PowerMax is that unit. I read the other reviews and followed their recommendations. When it was delivered, only 6 days after I placed the order, I examined the box, it was in good shape, as was the generator. The only problem I had was the yellow plastic oil dip stick had fallen out and the threads were a little missed up. I called the number on the instructions to request a new oil dip stick. Their reprehensive helped me and I had a new dip stick within 72 hours.



I then followed the easy to understand directions and the unit started the first time. The electric starter is great, no more pulling on the rope, which made my wife very happy, when she needs to start the unit. The weight is not bad. No problem lifting it into the back of my pickup truck. I just leave it there while camping.



The unit is large enough to operate the air conditioner on my camping trailer and micro wave at the same time. It is a little louder than I had hoped, but nothing you cannot live with.

Not sure if damage occured before shipping just sure it was not after. Beware of product, it cost me $100.00 to get the control panel repaired. I bought this to power our camper while we were at the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival. They have NO hookups.I borrowed a 1500 watt last year, & it would not handle the A/C on our camper.This worked GREAT. I read one review that it arrived in bad shape. Mine arrived in perfect shape. It was well packed, with plenty of thick foam packing. It had 2 packing braces that had to be removed.Most reviews complain about being a pain putting oil in it. I simply tipped on its side & used a small funnel.After adding oil, I filled with gas, put choke on, turned the key, & it fired right up. Runs like a champ.The electric start is great.A little heavy, takes 2 people to lift it into the truck. Not as quiet as a Honda. But at half the price,it is easy to compromise.There was a 3000i Honda at the festival that hardly made any noise, but I'm sure it was over 2000 dollars.Fairly quiet.For the price & the fetchers it cant't be beat,especially when their is no tax & no shipping.Can't say anything bad, for the price.

Pros: Well packed. Following instructions easy to unpack and assemble. Not quite enough power in battery to power up initially, but with the pull starter it started on the 2nd crank. Runs much quieter than other generators I have had and pulls power about as advertised. I put in a little less than a gallon of gas and have run for 1 1/2 hours and still have gas left. Compact and good looking unit. Battery needs about 1 1/2 hours of engine running to build up enough juice to start the engine after it has not been run for a few days.

Cons: When I started unpacking 1st generator discovered rust on most of the welds and where the screws attached the motor, etc. to the frame. (Paint was missing in these areas) Apparently moisture had gotten into the box. I contacted Amazon by email and within 2 hours another one was on the way. (Amazon's response was efficient and timely...and quite appreciated.) When 2nd generator arrived I found rust on welds but decided that I could remove the surface rust and repaint in about 1 hour so kept this one. I would suggest they find out where the moisture is getting into their boxes...and insure that the welds and areas where the engine is attached to the frame are painted. I realize this is cosmetic but I have never seen rust on other generators I or my friends have had, so I had to deduct a little here.

I ran my window unit AC, Medium size and a heater. No problem in a test.

Took about a 3000 watt. load no problem. Ran for about 30 minutes.

Very quiet for price. Pull started very easy.

Electric start worked well.



The one problem I am working on is the charging time it takes for it

to charge the Batt. I seem to have a very slow trickle charge.

Charged great with Batt. charger and 12vdc jumper but slow to charge

with Gen.



I check wireing and voltage was about 14.3 vdc to batt. I can live with it. Overall it works great !! Will add if I have any problems.

 "EF2000is review - high quality and very quiet" 2009-11-14

I have had this for about a month. This is a very high quality unit, nicely designed. I chose it over the Honda Eu2000i because it has a fuel gage and is a hair lighter (2 pounds), and liked the styling better. Specs are so close it's a tie... the Yamaha unit specs a bit quieter in "eco" throttle but the Honda specs a bit quieter at full power. Prior to this purchase I had bought a Honeywell inverter generator (a much less expensive Chinese-made knock-off) from Costco which I returned, because I was unimpressed with the Honeywell unit's quality and noise level. While the price difference is major, you get what you pay for in this case. Anyone looking at the cheaper knock-offs should really consider that a 5db increase in noise level is about twice as loud, the way humans perceive it.



The most impressive thing about this unit is how quiet it is. Even at full engine speed you can stand about 6 feet away and have a normal conversation without raising your voice, or talk on a cell phone without undue distraction. It features an "eco" setting which tapers down the engine throttle and noise when full load isn't required. At half-throttle or less, from about 6 feet away it is about half as loud and amazingly quiet. I used it to run a 50-amp 12v battery charger and at full charge level the charger only required the generator to operate at about half-speed, and when the charger tapered down the charge level to under 30-amps the generator became so quiet I literally forgot about it. It is MUCH quieter than my boat's inboard diesel engine, and more efficient than running the main engine just to top off the batteries. I also used it to power a heavy duty 120v grinder and it had no problems supplying the needed power, even on electric motor start-up.



I got this mainly for charging our boat's batteries at anchor but I also wanted the ability to run power tools. The lighter 1000-watt inverter generators could easily handle the charging application but not the more power-hungry tools. Having the extra power also means the eco-throttle will likely kick in earlier and the unit will operate quieter. The number-1 purchase criteria was "quiet" because I don't want to be distracted by incessant noise or be a bad neighbor in anchorages. The Honeywell was not quiet enough in my opinion.



An appeal to other boaters and to campers: Please don't settle for "cheap". Get a better quality inverter-generator unit that's quieter so you minimize noise pollution in get-away places. (Leave your "contractors generator" at home!!!) Also, please be considerate of neighbors and limit running it to times/places you aren't as likely to disturb others... and don't leave your boat or campsite while it runs and runs. We all like our electric conveniences, but if you really need 120v power more or less constantly; you should stay home or get a dock/parking space where you can plug into "the grid". It's rude to disturb others who are trying to get away to find some peace and quiet. If generators are abused it will lead to regulations banning them.



Negative: The unit ships without engine oil, so you need to buy a quart of standard 4-stroke engine oil and fill it. You will also need a funnel, and a pan to catch excess oil. There is no dipstick; you need to fill to the level of the bottom of the filler hole until any more runs out. It uses less than 3/4 quart. I think they should have included the required amount of oil, and a plastic filler container with a spout, marked to show the proper amount of oil to use.

 "Very Nice Generator - good compromise" 2009-11-24

Got this about a month ago for tailgates. Haven't put much time on it yet, but here are some intitial comments:



1) Mine did not come with a DC plug / adapter. Called ETQ and they said that the newer ones do not have that feature.



2) There is an error in the manual. It says to use 10w30 oil. That is NOT CORRECT. Use only 2 cycle oil. The manual is wrong.



I tested the sound level using my radio shack sound level meter and found that at 23 feet it produced around 59 dbA and at 9 feet it produced about 67 dbA. I would characterize the sound as louder than the Honda EU2000 / EU1000, but overall not too objectionable as it's kind of a low pitch sound. It's definitely why the unit is less expensive than the Honda EU, which I could not justify price-wise.

Got the generator for lightning my power panel which I needed to replace. Worked fine the first 6 hours. Next day, fuel was running out of the carburetor. No expertise here, but took off float bowl, air cleaner cover, sprayed choke/carburetor cleaner, and applied air pressure . Still, same problem. Used flashlight and batteries to finish my panel wiring. Next day took bowl apart and noticed gas inside the plastic float. Drained float and put a thin coat of Krazy Glue around the seam where it seemed to be leaking. With a smile, put it back together, but same problem of leaking gas around the carburetor. Next day, took bowl apart, experimented with the float tang that regulates gas flow at the pin valve, and finally success. Local small engine repair folks told me they knew of nothing that would work other than a replacement float. Had used similar glue on an outboard motor lower gear housing and still working fine after several years.

Received my $118 (incl shipping) bargain "Chinese" generator from Amazon, NIB. Found it had been dropped, the foot had sunk (smashed) thru the styrofoam packing. The front panel including the air cleaner area was cracked with a piece broken off. Started and tested OK - actually runs very well. Called Amazon, "she" asked me "if I send the parts at no charge, can you fixit yourself?" I said yes.

BTW, Purchased the generator to power LiPoly battery chargers - charge RC airplane batteries at the flying field - many, of not most flying fields do not have electricity.



1) after one "run", the fitting attached to the fuel tank (above the petcock) started leaking. The connection was not tight enough. This is a straight ttread (not pipe thread) with a rubber "compression" bushing. After removal, I wound teflon tape around the threads, and under the place where the rubber compression grommet goes, so that when fitting was screwed into the gas tank, the threads were very tight fitting (because of the teflon tape) when hand tightened. When all was aligned, tightened with wrench to apprx 8 or 10 ft-lb.



2) Replacement panel was not exactly the same - had to fabricate new mounting for the capacitor, and power plug cover, and several other tweaks to get all to fit.



Disturbing Discovery; the wiring was not packed/secured properly - wiring was in contact with several vibrating parts, causing the wiring insulation to begin wear away (chafe) - this would eventually cause a "ground out" (cause a short to ground).



Once the front panel was repaired, and in place --- read on



** repairmans "pro" tip **. Remove the gas tank so you have access from the top. Cover the power wires with large shrink tubing (so it fits over the power wire(s) connectors) and tie wrap (somewhat loosely) - be sure that no wires touch the engine/generator or fuel tank (protect insulation from chafing), Then put gas tank on last. Inspect wiring using flashlight to double check that no wiring is touching anything where vibration would wear away the wire insulation.



Finally, I'm still pleased with the generator considering the price. I just had to finish the "quality".

 "Lightweight and great!" 2008-06-10

Received delivery of this generator on the day of a huge storm that swept through and knocked out power for 30 hours. This generator allowed me to pump out my full sump pit, keep my two fridges cold, and had the TV and fan running (all happened at separate intervals).



The best thing about this generator is how easy it is to use, and it's only 70 lbs. Fill up with gas and oil, switch the power on, gas on, choke, and pull. This generator is so quiet and has plenty of power to get you through a short term power outage.



Dollar for watts, this is the best inverter generator out there. If I ever need a 30 amp hookup (ie. for a transfer switch connected to a house panel), I can buy another one of these generators and set up a parallel hookup. Also, since it's lightweight and quiet, I can use it for other purposes like camping. I also bought the hour meter and cover.



This is a quality piece of equipment, made in Japan. Not the Harbor Freight special.

I purchased the smaller 1200w ETQ generator several years ago, and was generally pleased with it. This one (3250/4000w) came with a broken air cleaner housing, and a leaking fuel tank. I called ETQ and they promptly sent repair parts. The generator runs good, and is very quiet (huge muffler). I got it to run a 220v water pump, construction site equipment, and my house in an emergency. So far, so good.

This item shipped quickly, was easy to assemble, started right up when I filled it with approx 15 oz. of 10w30 oil and unleaded gas. The engine runs smooth; I was surprised how relatively quiet it was and how easy it was to move around with the handle and wheeling capability. You will need to fabricate a ground line from the generator for safety purposes. It handled my 6 circuits from my transfer switch with no problem i.e. with clean even power. It's important to note that using the 4 pin 30 amp connector outlet (L14 30 type) will allow the generator to balance the different loads. The other 20amp connector outlet does not, according to the generator schematic. In summary, Iam impressed...great value for the money!

What a great generator for the price and free shipping to boot! Ordered late Sat. and and arrived Tuesday! You can't go wrong with this GEMerator. I was going to purchase the Honda IU2000 and know a couple of people that have them and use w/their RV's. Liked the fact that they are super quiet but did not like the fact that they would only run 4hrs on a tank of fuel and would not run AC. This generator covers both these negatives w/flying colors and 1/3rd the price! Not as quiet as the Honda but not at all too noisy either. Don't get me wrong...the Honda is a great generator but it comes at a cost.



The ETQ 4000 was very easy to start (2nd pull) and purred like a kitten. Put her to the test right away and everything worked flawlessly. I will put it through its paces this coming week at deer camp and will update as to how it performs in the field. So far very happy w/this purchase! Don't worry about the ney sayer's on adding oil and pull cord being an issue. Was no issue at all if you have any kind of mechanical skills. Pulled from box, set-up on work bench and filled w/oil and a little gas, pushed over choke lever and gave a pull. Pulled one more easy pull and she came to life. Was concerned before purchase as to how loud it would be but was very pleased!

I read all the reviews of this unit. I was worried it was a Chinese unit. No worries. Because I read the units, I knew the pros and cons, mainly starting it. I knew I had to put the wheels and "feet" on, which was very easy. I knew you had to have a long funnel for the fuel or to tilt the unit (generator) for fueling. I have to say, the reviews were right on. AND I did place the choke in the wrong position, so it took 4 pulls. BUT once it was in the right position, I COULD NOT BELIEVE it started right up. It is quiet enough, although you know it is there. No malfunctions. It arrived on time, missing no parts, absolutely no damage. Had I known, I would have done a video review. And my price was 367.00 out the door, shipped to my door. AND it has a 200 amp service outlet.

P.S. I purchased this on Amazon because they honor replacement and shipment.
